Schwartz is only 26? That was another guy I was super into back into 2014 when it looked like we were going nowhere fast. He'd be an excellent get and has a solid contract. I'd rather get Schwartz and keep both Guentzel and Kessel than trade either of them for Tarasenko. I think the net gain is better that way.

As a Blues fan, I don't mind them doing a rebuild, but I would rather have a new GM making these trades for the future than the one that built what we have now.

I was thinking Schwartz would be a good dude to get.

MM, Maata, Rust, Picks....?

So here's a question... Should the Penguins sell MM at this point? Injury prone and back to back poor seasons? I honestly don't know the answer to this. My gut says yes when you factor in the injury history. I just don't know if I believe in Jarry or Desmith either however.

IDK about next year but I think for this year Desmith is locked in and ready to go and if we get the personnel and actually play hockey we can win with Desmith

Trading Matt Murray right now would be very poor asset management. You cannot trade a guy when his value has likely never been lower versus his worth to the team. The guy has a reputation for being injury prone and questions will linger about his play recently.

If the Penguins were going to trade Murray, the time to do that was in the offseason in 2017. That was when his value was sky high and the return would've been huge. Selling him for pennies now makes little sense.

IF we could snag Schwartz/Parayko that be cool.

Hind sight is always 20/20. I don't think there's a Penguins fan out there who wouldn't elect to keep MAF over Murray if we could get redo.

If his value is worthless now... Obviously you keep him. But you never know if another GM believes they can fix a player. Believe it or not his value can drop even further if he comes off this "injury" cough cough, and continues to puke on himself.

Nah. I still believe keeping Murray was the right move, even now. Fleury is dogpoop this year. He regressed back to his former self. While he was awesome last year for Vegas, I think that was a perfect storm and had he stayed in Pittsburgh, I don't believe he would have had the same success last season.

I am extremely worried about Murray following a Cam Ward career trajectory at this point. I'm with Boyd that I still think keeping him over Flower was the right call at the time due to cap implications, but I don't think that means that we have to marry ourselves to him now. If he can be part of a trade to bring back a top 6 winger like Schwartz or a top 4 RD like Parayko I do it knowing full well the risk that he might rebound and we're left in goalie hell going from one journyman fringe starter to the next for the rest of the Crosby Malkin Era if Jarry doesn't pan out.

No they should have sold him after the second Stanley Cup for a small fortune of nhl roster players and a first round pick. Exactly like I said.

I wonder if they could swing a Maatta+Rust package for Schwartz.

That's the guy I really want, well at least that's feasible for this team.

I'm not saying it wasn't the right call at the time. Like you, I'm extremely worried MM is not the goalie we thought.

Even now I still think it's the right call. I wouldn't ask for a do-over.

That’d be a no brainer, IMO, which is why I think it wouldn’t get done

Yeah. Pay 5 mill for a good goaltender or pay 4 for a terrible one. But as long as Ryan Wilson’s on board can’t go wrong.

Way to round up on Murray and round down on MAF there to turn a 2 mil difference in cap hit into 1. There is a laundry list of things we wouldn’t have been able to do cap wise if we had retained MAF, chief among them extend Brian Dumoulin.

Well Flower is 5.75 and Murray 3.75. so 2mil difference and that's a big difference for a cap team.

Last year is a much different story, but yeah this year they both suck. Murray hasn't been the same since his father got very sick and passed. IDK if it has anything to do with it but it's around that same time.
